"Let's just go up down"

Confused by this one? You're not the only one!

My boyfriend and I went into town recently so he could finish off his Christmas shopping. Now the trip was going well, other that the fact that Alex had trouble navigating his way around the shopping centre. I don't blame him. He is a guy so doesn't go shopping very often but I have to say, I thought women were supposed to be the ones with a bad sense of direction?

Anyway, this post was not written to get into a debate about the opinions men hold of women, such as having hurrendous geography skills. Not only could we manage to navigate ourselves half way around the world, we'd be able to feed everyone, keep everyone entertained and plan the rest of the holiday whilst doing it! So they should probably keep their opinions to themselves!

Back to the point of the story, whilst in the shopping centre, Alex needed to use a cash machine so we debated for a second about where it was and to please us both, I came up with a very sensible plan: "Let's just go up down." Now I have to admit, it sounded much more, well, clever, in my head. What I wanted to say was "let's go to the end on the upper level, then go downstairs if the machine isn't up here." Nevertheless, after giggling away to himself at my mistake, he understood what I meant and agreed that is what we should do.

The point is, I think that a nice thing to have with any other person is that they understand you and you understand them, even if you are not quite clear enough. Then again, sometimes you never need to say anything at all.
